About

St Leonard’s is a family, bound together in the love of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to make that love known, inspire others to join us, involve ourselves in the wider community and deepen our understanding of God.

The church is at the heart of our community, and our Parish Vision statement is:

Welcome to your church, always here for you, whoever you are. Come and see ...

Music at St Leonard's

Music within our Church is a key part of worship and encompasses traditional and modern worship songs. Hymns are chosen from ‘Hymns Old and New’ and are guided by RSCM Sunday-by-Sunday publication. Our Choir sings at weekly services led by our Choir Master & Organist. The Choir

Our Area

Marston Green has a population of approximately 7000, with a mixed ethnicity. We border a large estate (the largest in Europe when it was first built) some of which falls within our Parish and is within the highest 10% of deprivation in the country. There are excellent transport links from the Railway Station and the Bus Interchange that has an easy commute to London or Manchester, or easy bus or train ride to Birmingham.

School Affiliation

We are affiliated with Marston Green Junior School and the children are welcomed into Church for Special Celebration Services – Easter, Christmas, and to learn about The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism and Stations of the Cross.

Some of the things we do

The Parish Hall

St Leonard’s Church owns the freehold of the Parish Hall, and the management is carried out by 6 Trustees. 3 from Bickenhill and Marston Green Parish Council, and 3 from St Leonard’s Church.

Fundraising

St Leonard’s has a Fairs Committee that organises an Annual May Market and Christmas Craft and Gift Fair in November. The May Market includes children from Marston Green Infant Academy providing the very traditional Maypole Dancing. Our Christmas Craft and Gift fair brings together the community and a welcome start to the festive season with a performance of songs from Marston Green Junior School choir.

Wednesday Welcome

This community event is open to all and is held each week in the Elmdon Lounge of the Parish Hall, hosted by St Leonard's Church volunteers.

Messy Church

Approximately five times a year, we hire the Parish Hall for our popular Messy Church. This is currently run by a dedicated band of volunteers and includes many craft activities which are relevant to the worship theme along with a dedicated worship section. There is an opportunity for this to be taken forward with the support of a Children & Families Worker.
